There's something truly comforting about homemade biscuits, warm and flaky, straight from the oven. These biscuits are perfect for breakfast or as a side at dinner. Whether you prefer them with butter and jam or as a base for a savory biscuit sandwich, this flaky biscuit recipe will not disappoint.
Ingredients
Scale:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon granulated sugar (optional)
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
3/4 cup buttermilk (or milk with 1 tablespoon vinegar)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and optional sugar until well combined.
Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, cut the cold, cubed butter into the flour mixture until crumbly.
Pour in the cold buttermilk and mix gently with a fork until the dough just comes together.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and pat into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Fold the dough over itself 2-3 times.
Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out biscuits and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown on top.
Brush the tops with melted butter right after you take them out of the oven.
